In 2001, the population of Fucking was 91. The name Fucking can be traced back to the year 1070 and even further, to a man named Focko who lived in the 6^th century. The suffix "-ing" referes to persons or people, in this case, and Fucking therefore means "the place of Focko's people". The city limits signs are popular sights in their own right and are frequently stolen. Visitors from the United States, who consider the name of the village more than just "unusual", often arrive in large numbers for a photo opportunity and have a good laugh over videos like this one.
